Still Alive
Greetings! It's been a while, hasn't it? Sorry for not updating -- it's been a hectic year thus far. Was ridiculously busy from January to June, and then spent most of July detoxing and enjoying the summer before work insanity picked up again earlier this month. I don't often talk about my work here on this blog, but I did want to make a quick plug to you PSP RPG fans out there, since three PSP games we helped localize all hit retail within a span of four short weeks, the last of which hits stores this Wednesday:

They are: Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology, from Namco Bandai, Brave Story: New Traveler, from XSEED, and Jeanne d'Arc, from SCEA. Definitely let me know what you think if you have a chance to try any of 'em! We have a couple of other games coming out in the next few weeks, too, but I'll save those for another day. :)

In other news...

Every so often, when life starts to feel too complicated, I get into this mode where I basically want to go through all of my material possessions (a huge chunk of which is games, of course) and get rid of all the stuff I don't want or need. I own so many games I'm never going to get around to playing, so why let them sit there on the shelf taking up space and collecting dust? I'm starting to realize that just having them there stresses me out -- it's like knowing that they're waiting for me makes me feel obligated to someday try them out. :p

Needless to say, I think there's going to be a fire sale here real soon.

That said, there are a few games on the way I definitely DO want to play, so I decided to put together a shopping list for the rest of the year (kind of like last year's, only not nearly as huge -- from now on I'm only buying stuff I know I'll play right away). Here's what I've got so far:

August
BioShock (X360) -- Already bought and en route from the US
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii)

September
Halo 3 (X360)

October
Front Mission (DS)
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles (PSP)

November
Mass Effect (X360)
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (X360)
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker (DS)
Contra 4 (DS)
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (Wii)

December
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)
Professor Layton and the Curious Village (DS)

I haven't really thought about Japanese releases much, but off the top of my head, nothing really major springs to mind. If Tales of Innocence makes it out this year, I'll get it, and I think I'll probably pick up Gran Turismo 5 Prologue if it actually comes out, but that might be it. Oh, and I'm a hardware sucker so I'll buy the new PSP in September, even though I really don't need it. :p

What's new with you all?

Bioshock does NOT disappoint(some people dont like the ending but hey screw em).

Not a single PS3 game(not even a download one), what gives?

I would recommend Ratchet and Clank future, but Heavenly Sword and Lair are utterly skippable.

Uncharted...not really.

Yeah, I'm gonna get Ratchet & Clank, just not this year. Maybe when the void hits early next year.

I didn't like the Heavenly Sword demo enough to spend more than $20 on the retail game, and Little Big Planet...I dunno, I'll definitely check out the demo, but so far, I still don't really "get" what all the excitement is about. We'll see!

Was in a Borders yesterday and saw Alexander O. Smith's translation of the Brave Story Novel on display. The thing is gargantuan, like over 800 pages.

Yeah, I ordered that from Amazon but it's taking forever. Finally supposed to show up this week sometime. Looking forward to it. :)

Isn't Dragon Quest IX supposed to come out this winter? I want it soooo bad.

Yeah, but I can't see it hitting in 2007, it seems too soon to me. No official word yet on a date though, so we'll see. Of course, whenever it comes out I'll be there on day one. :)

I think DQIV is coming out this year to make up for a probable DQIX delay. FFTA2 and FFIV too :)

Ooh, yeah, I'm all over DQIV. FFIV, too. :) I'm gonna pass on FFTA2, though. The first one left a bad taste in my mouth. :/

Hmm I'm waiting till I go home for Christmas to get Bioshock (mom said she was going to buy this since my brother said I'd like it). Same with Heavenly Sword, which I'll pick up when I'm home. I think for the most part any games that have a heavy single player campaign are going to be waited on while anything that's focused on multiplayer gets picked up immediately. One of the disadvantages of having so many online games is that the community (especially on 360) tends to migrate from game to game. I wanted to get Table Tennis for the 360 but the number of people playing it is really low, same with Saints Row (which I really liked online).

I think right now I'll be good to stick with Halo 3 and CoD4 for the 360 until Christmas... and for the PS3, one of the NHL games (whichever GAF adapts) and Stranglehold. Wii... umm... just Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros for me.

I really want to join the Bioshock crowd, but I'm holding off until after I buy a new video card so that I can play it proper. I still have to pick up Stalker and Dreamfall, too.

Currently obsessing over Warship Gunner 2 something fierce.

Hey, if you finish it, take a screen grab of the credits when they get to localization or translation or whatever. I'm curious if we made it in or not. :)

I totally hear you on the getting rid of stuff front. I'm about to have a fire sale too. The room feels so much more comfortable and relaxing with less shit in it.

Yeah, it's just less to think about. Every time I see stuff on the shelf I get that "oh, I need to play that someday" feeling. If I just get rid of it, I won't have to worry anymore. :)

Wait, no PGR4? I always thought you were a PGR nut for some reason.

PGR4 is on the "next year sometime" list, I think. I really loved PGR2 but PGR3 was a little thin, and with Forza coming out so recently, I'm just not ready yet for another racer. MS did a terrible job with the timing of those two, IMO. PGR4 really should've been an '08 game.

Anyway, I'll get it eventually. :)

Fair enough, but I am glad they waited until it was good before they released it. :)

We'll see, I mean, if PGR4 hits at a time when there's nothing else immediately on my plate, I may have difficulty resisting, but as of now, my plan is to at least TRY to resist. :)

Bioshock has to wait for now. I spent my "new retail game allowance" for the summer on Persona 3. Front Mission for DS also takes priority over Bioshock...so it looks like I am gonna be mad late to that party. =( Come to think of it, it's been a couple of months since I've booted up either the Wii or 360 (GGPO, PS2, DS and some classic machines are sapping up my game time right now).

Contra 4 and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles are obvious blips on my radar as well. Super Mario Galaxy and Prof Layton are forcing one of my eyebrows to raise and my lower facial muscles to contort into an expression that mimics "curiosity and caution".

Post when you do the fire sale. I like throwing my couch change at friends.

I'm trading in a crapload of games I don't play anymore so I can get the bioshock limited edition tomorrow. (I'm also gonna take the artbook pdf to Kinkos so they can print it for me all bound and prety and everything.)

I'm probably gonna get Blue Dragon next week too just cuz the demo's fun as hell (Ditto for Stranglehold, though I might hold off on that one).
