Legend of Zelda hasn't aged terribly well and I'm afraid that if you haven't already played it within the last 20 years that it might be a bit too dated to go back to. Some of the puzzles are downright nonsensical and obscure (bombing random rocks, burning every tree, etc). I'll be damned if it wasn't the reason I got a NES though. Holy shit did I play the dickens out of it.
On a fun sidenote, I'm actually playing through Wind Waker for the first time right now. Can't wait to beat it and move on to Twilight Princess and then finally fire up Okami.
Have you picked up RType III, yet? I think it's on the Japanese VC and it's one of the best damn shmups on the SNES (if not the best). Super Star Soldier for the PCE is also pretty damn fun (though a tad easy).
